Each of the fifty states carries its own drawings here rather than a color fill, so the build works state by state: you find Wyoming because of what is drawn in it, not because of where it sits. That makes this the most educational puzzle in the range almost by accident — children finish it knowing where things are.

The palette runs warm through the southwest and cool up the northeast, which gives a second sorting axis once the obvious landmarks are placed. The pull out image is the one to keep by your elbow.

From our table: Start with the Great Lakes. They are the only shapes on the sheet nothing else can impersonate.

Great puzzle

This puzzle was sturdy and fun to do. My whole family had a good time working on it together. (Although, we live in Indiana, and it has a large rollercoaster that’s definitely not in the state. So weird!)
