Cutting the New York artwork at 180 pieces removes the thing that makes the 1000 version hard: at this size each piece carries several buildings, so the skyline is legible in the hand from the first sorting pass. Children get the shape of the city out of it, which is more than most souvenirs manage.

It is also the one we see rebuilt most often. Small enough to clear away, quick enough to do again next weekend, and the artwork rewards a second look once you know where the bridges go.

From our table: If a child has built the London 180, this one takes about a third longer. That is the right step up.
